Community Outreach/Volunteer Opportunity: Research shows there are many mental health benefits to intergenerational connections! As the focus this year is mental health and wellness, we have decided to focus on volunteering for the PEEPS Service-Learning program that has seniors reading to littles. Out members and the students will both benefit from the time spent together. We will organize carpools and plan sessions where our members can volunteer at Perry Elementary for the PEEPS program. More information will be shared at the Sept. 9th meeting. We look forward to fun, fulfilling sessions volunteering together!
Service, Projects, and Collections: Our March meeting will focus on mental health and strength through yoga. The presenter is a breast cancer survivor. To support cancer patients, we will be working with Annie Klein's project that puts together "goody bags" for people going through chemo. At our October meeting (Breast Cancer Awareness Month), we will kick off our 6-month collection of items for the "goody bags" that will be given to Annie at our March meeting. We plan on working as a group to help put the bags together. Working together to help others is a wonderful way to improve our mental health and happiness! In April, we will learn about mental health and living with diabetes as adults. We will also learn about Camp Ho Mita Koda and collect a monetary donation to support this camp that does so much to support children with diabetes. The campers will benefit, and we will too! We are looking forward to a year of volunteering, service and group projects with our sisters!
